What is Ketogenic Diet?
The keto diet involves significantly reducing carbohydrate intake, consuming a moderate amount of protein, and increasing lipid consumption to make fats the body's primary energy source.
In a ketogenic diet, the body enters a state of ketosis. This means that most cells, including those in the brain, use ketones—produced from the breakdown of fatty acids—as fuel instead of glucos
What is Ketosis?
Ketosis is a metabolic state where your body burns fat for energy instead of carbs.
This shift happens when you drastically cut down on carbohydrates, reducing your body's glucose (sugar) supply, which is typically the primary energy source for cells.
The ketogenic diet is the most effective way to achieve ketosis. This diet involves limiting your carb intake to about 20 to 50 grams per day and increasing your fat intake with foods like meat, fish, eggs, nuts, and healthy oils.
It's crucial to moderate your protein intake as well. Excessive protein can be converted into glucose, potentially slowing your transition into ketosis.
Intermittent fasting can also speed up the process of entering ketosis. A common method is to eat within an 8-hour window and fast for the remaining 16 hours.
